Jamshedpur/Dhanbad: The much-awaited Chancellor's Portal, which aims to link students, colleges and universities with each other to make administration of higher education seamless and transparent, is likely to go live from May 15.
Once in use, the portal (www.jharkhanduniversities.nic.in) will serve as a common platform for online admissions and act as a database for recording Aadhaar-based biometric attendance of teachers and students, maintenance of teachers' service books, leave records, information of affiliation of new colleges and much more.
Since the process is being introduced for the first time, the government has instructed all colleges to help students submit online applications.
Special instructions have been issued to colleges to help rural students who are unaware of the online process.
Kolhan University had faced several glitches after it had introduced online registration and admissions in undergraduate and postgraduate courses two years ago.
Colleges are now busy sending their profiles - courses on offer, seat availability, cut-off marks and bank account information - to the National Informatics Centre which is developing the website. Golmuri-based ABM College principal Mudita Chandra said they have decided to set up an enquiry counter for freshers to help navigate the website.
"We have asked for four computer operators from the state higher and technical education department so that the enquiry counter functions smoothly," said Chandra.
A varsity official said colleges have also been asked to keep dummy hard copies for students who are completely unaware of the online process. Once they fill up the forms, the staff will feed the data and complete the process.
Karim City College in Sakchi has decided to upload information on its website to help students. "We are waiting for the website to go live. The admission process will continue till July," said Mohammad Zakaria, principal, Karim City College.
Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University in Dhanbad is also waiting for the launch of the portal to begin its online admissions.
Vice chancellor Dharmendra Kumar Singh said it will offer online admissions in 21 disciplines including market-oriented courses.
