UPSC ESE 2018: The Union Public Service Commission is going to start the online application process for UPSC Engineering Service Exam, 2018 on September 27 and the last date has been fixed as October 23, 2017. UPSC conducts ESE every year to fill various engineering related vacancy in central government and its ministries. ESE is conducted for Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. The successful candidates of this examination work with governmental engineering organiaation such as Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Central Engineering Service (CES), Military Engineering Services (MES), and others.

As per notification, the online application form for UPSC ESE 2018 will be available online on September 27, 2017. The last date to submit the forms is October 23, 2017. Admit cards will be available for download from 26th December on the UPSC website. The preliminary exam will be held on 7th January 2018. The result of the preliminary examination will be declared within months 3 months after completing the exam. The result will be made available on the UPSC website. All the candidates who clear the preliminary examination, will have to appear in the main examination, followed by interview before appointment.

According to UPSC, every year around over 200000 candidates attempt UPSC ESE for around 500 vacancies.  Successful candidates are posted as Assistant Executive Engineers who later with time may reach up to Chairman/Managerial/Director/Secretarial level positions working for the government of India. IES Engineers are posted in various government undertakings in defence, railways, roads, manufacturing, construction, public works, power, telecommunications and other domains.

UPSC ESE 2018 Trick & Tips

Candidates will first have to appear for an objective type Preliminary Examination. The preliminary exam consists of two papers namely General Studies & Engineering Aptitude and Engineering Discipline. Paper I – General Studies & Engineering Aptitude is of 200 marks and the duration for the same is 2 hours. Paper II – Engineering Discipline is of 300 marks and the duration is 3 hours. Candidates successful in the Preliminary Examination further appear for the Main Examination. The main exam also consists of two papers or sections both cover the relevant Engineering Discipline. Both paper I and II are of 300 marks and duration for each is 3 hours.

It is key to understand the pattern of the exam. In recent past the syllabus has been revised. So, candidate should opt for a preparation book as per new syllabus. Time management is key, so practice objective question in a time bound manner. Candidates many take the help of timer. Plan study subject wise and try to repeat doing tough question as many times as possible till you get it right. Candidate should practice on previous year paper. You may not get the same question in the exam but it will be give you better idea about the sense of the exam. You will be in a better position to understand about the type of question asked.

Mock test is good but don’t take it for granted. Candidates must keep in mind that Objective papers are easier and many questions may be repeated from previous year questions and also from objective books. Prepare each topic according to Objective and Conventional standard, but practice more objective questions.
