Students protest IBPS new eligibility criteria for Bank PO examinations

PATNA: The new IBPS' ( Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) directives on eligibility criteria for recruitment of probationary officers have created a stir among various student organizations in the city.

Members of All India Students' Federation (AISF) on Monday gheraoed Bank of Baroda's CMD S S Mundra, who was here to inaugurate new branch of the bank, to lodge their protest against the changes in the eligibility criteria.

Mundra, however, announced he will take up their demands to the IBPS management.

According to the new norms, the students have to obtain 60% marks in graduation and s/he should not be more than 28 years of age, while the old norm had set 30 years as the upper age limit to apply for the post. The students demanded withdrawal of the new criteria and cut in the examination fee from Rs 600 to Rs 400.

Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also took out a protest march from Patna University to DM's office and locked the gate of the office for hours on Monday to protest change in the eligibility criteria of IBPS examination. They also submitted a letter to the DM in this regard.

The All India Students' Association too has announced that they will block the rail lines at Patna Junction and Chitkohra Bridge on Tuesday morning to protest the new rules.
