Government not paying colleges for girl's free admission

English: Nitish Kumar
Colleges under Magadh University (MU) are passing through a critical phase of financial hardships due to the state's new education policy to admit girls up to postgraduate (PG) level without fee in colleges and universities in Bihar.
This policy was introduced during the tenure of former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi. The Nitish Kumar government has maintained it. The girls' colleges are hard pressed as they have no other financial source to maintain their day-to-day expenditure.
J D Women's College has the strength of about 6,000 students up to PG level. The college is strictly following the directives of the state government to admit girls at undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) level courses without any fee, said college principal Subhas Prasad Sinha.
According to him, the college has no source of income to maintain miscellaneous expenses on stationery and chemicals for laboratory. "The state government has assured us that the government would bear the expenditure of each girl student. The college had submitted an estimated expenditure of about Rs1.7 crore incurred during 2015-2016 on the students. The government has not paid to the college so far," he said.
