The University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test
(NET) for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for
lecturership under social science, management, economics, commerce and
various other subjects were conducted on Sunday at different centers
across the country.
The exams were conducted between 9 am and 4 pm peacefully with first
and second paper in forenoon session and third paper in afternoon
session.
The UGC- NET exams are condcuted twice every year, in June and
December. The exams are conducted to determine candidate’s eligibility
for lecturership and for the award of JRF. This time, UGC had conducted
NET in 78 subjects at 74 universities spread across the country.
There were three objective-type papers. Out of 60 multiple choice
questions of two marks each in Paper I, candidates were asked to solve
any 50. All questions were of general nature, intended to evaluate the
teaching and research aptitude of the aspirants. In Paper II, there were
50 objective type compulsory questions of two marks each based on the
subject selected by the candidate. There were 75 such questions in Paper
III. This was the first time that objective type NET exam were
conducted. According to new exam pattern, there will be no negative
marking.
"It was good. My subject was Economics. The first paper (mathematics
and reasoning) and second paper were good but the third and last was
tough. All questions in the third paper were objectives," said Sudha
Akhauri, a resident of Hardwar who came to Delhi on Sunday morning to
write the exams conducted at Government Boys Higher Secondary School No.
3, Palam.
The candidates who qualify for the award of JRF will be eligible to
pursue research in the subject of their PG or in a related subject. They
will be eligible for lecturership. The universities, institutions, IITs
and others can also select the JRF awardees. However, the candidates
qualifying exclusively for lectureship will not be considered for award
of JRF.
According to UGC officials, the number of candidates has increased
three-fold this time as compared to the last test held in December.
The result of the UGC-NET June 24th, 2012 exam will be made available on the UGC websites www.ugc.ac.in and www.ugcnetonline.in in the month of October.
