The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has decided to the prestigious  civil services preliminary examination, to select IAS and IPS officers among others, will be held in June instead of August next year and onward. For last three year the UPSC is conducting this examination in the month of August and now it is after the gap of three years that Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will be conducting the examination in June, rather than August.

The UPSC used to publish the advertisement for Civil Service Examination in the month of January every year and the preliminary examination used to be held in the month of May / June every year, because now UPSC is getting application submitted online, it is publishing the advertisement in the month of May and conducting the preliminary examination in the month of August every year for last three years.  May be some body in the UPSC awaken and it seems that now the civil services preliminary examination, 2017, is scheduled to be held on June 18, as per the Commissions' calendar for the examination.

The preliminary tests for 2016, 2015 and 2014 were held during the month of August and the  preliminary exam for 2013 was held on May 26 that year.

The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages - preliminary, main and interview - to select officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others. Thousands of candidates take the test every year at various centres across the country.

It is not clear what benefit will candidates get by this decision of advancement of Civil Service Prelim Examination. UPSC need to shorten the time period of this annual examination, it take nearly one and half year to complete one cycle of the examination.
